Coach: Jack Maitland As an athlete Jack competed internationally from 1976 when he first represented Scotland as a junior orienteer. He competed for Scotland and GB as a senior before switching to mountain-racing where he enjoyed further success. Highlights of his mountain-racing career were winning the British Fell-running Championships in 1986 and winning both the Everest marathon and the Mount Cameroon race in 1989. In 1990 he competed in the Commonwealth Games triathlon and he then represented GB 16 times at elite level and won 2 World age-group titles before retiring in 2002 to concentrate on coaching. Malcolm Brown is the former endurance running coach for UK Athletics and the current Olympic Performance Manager for British Triathlon. He has coached athletes to international appearances at Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic level. His career started with a degree in Teaching Physical Education and English. He has worked at four different universities in academic and departmental roles, taking on the post at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2002. He was involved in coaching athletics until 2000 when he left his post at UK Athletics to spend more time with his young family. A few years later he was asked if he would help two young brothers imporve their run speed. Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee have worked with him, on and off, ever since then and Brown currently sets their run training and oversees their general programme. As British Triathlon Olympic Performance Manager Malcolm oversaw Britain's preparations and progress towards London 2012. Qualifications:
